This week in Falcon class….

·        In Literacy this week we have been learning about Grace Darling, and her rescue of several sailors from a storm in 1838, after spotting them from her lighthouse.  We made a mind-map of everything that we had found out about her, and later wrote a sentence or two about her bravery.
·        In Numeracy this week we have been learning words to describe position, such as next to, in between, behind, underneath etc. We also talked about words to describe direction, and used them to guide each other around e.g. forwards, backwards etc.
·        In our Topic work this week we have been thinking about Lent, and the reasons why we celebrate ‘Pancake Day.’ We talked about our favourite pancake toppings, and had a lot of fun taking part in the pancake race. We have also been busy making a model lighthouse, using cardboard, newspaper, glue and paint.

Enjoy half-term! J

This week in Falcon Class...

·        In Literacy this week we have had a go at retelling the story of ‘Lost and Found’ in our writing. We also played lots of Literacy-based games including phonics snap and phonics puzzles,  as well as spending a little time working on our letter formation.
·        In Numeracy this week we have been finding out if we remember how to add two groups of objects together, and the different methods we can use to do this e.g. using objects, using our fingers, counting in our heads. We have also been working on our number formation as we are still finding numbers 2,5,6 and 9 a little tricky.
·        In our Topic work this week we have been busy exploring our senses. We have explored lots of different fruit including pineapple, pomegranate and mango, finding out what they looked like, smelt like, felt like and tasted like! We also went on a listening walk around the school to see what we could hear. Finally, we undertook a science experiment to find out which materials would make the best boat. We worked in pairs to make the boat and then tested them to find out which would float and which would sink!

Exploring the senses ....continued!

On Tuesday we explored the senses of smell and taste. We enjoyed pineapple and melon, but we weren't very keen on pomegranate and sharon fruit!

Exploring our senses

This week we have been learning about our senses. On Monday we explored our sight and touch using a selection of fruit. Here we are, drawing some pictures of the fruit.

This week in Falcon class….

·        In Literacy this week we read the story ‘Lost and Found, about a boy and a penguin who travelled to the South Pole. We talked about where the story took place, and painted a picture of the setting. We then watched a clip of the film version of the story, and had a go at writing a description of the storm.
·        In Numeracy this week we have been gathering information from each other, such as our favourite colour or animal, and recording it in a tally chart. We have also had a go at displaying the information in a pictogram.
·        In our Topic work this week we have been learning about the South Pole. We looked at some photographs of the South Pole, and thought about what we would need to take with us if we were to take a trip there. We also learned about the explorer Robert Falcon Scott, and his trip to the Antarctic. We had a go at acting out his journey, before learning about the different reasons that he didn’t win the race to the South Pole.
