This week in Falcon Class

  • In Literacy this week we have been reading the traditional tale ‘The Little Red Hen.’ We had a go at acting out the story using role play masks and using some language from the story.
  • In Numeracy this week we have been busy adding with money, using 1ps and 2ps to buy different objects from the class ‘shop’. We have tried to come up with different ways of totalling the same amount of money.
  • In our Topic work this week we have been learning about China, as it was the last country to host the Olympic Games. We watched a clip of the 2008 Opening Ceremony and learned that Chinese people use a different alphabet. We had a go at writing our name using Chinese letters. On Tuesday we took part in Sports Day, and everyone tried very hard and did a great job!

A visit from some ducklings

On Friday we were lucky enough to be visited by some ducklings. We each had a turn holding them, and learned lots about what they ate, where they lived and how to look after them. A big thank you to Benjamin for bringing them in to see us.

A surprise discovery

On Tuesday we made an exciting discovery on the school field. We found a family of baby hedgehogs! They are now safe and sound being kindly looked after by Mrs Woodward. Thank you very much!

Our brilliant display

This term we are learning about The Olympic Games. We have painted pictures of the different sports, painted flags from the different countries that take part, and made collages of the Olympic Rings and Olympic medals. Take a look!

Sports Day!

Today, Caythorpe Primary School took part in Sports Day. We all had a fantastic time and Falcon Class took part in a sprint, ball and spoon race, bean bag shuttle and whole school relay. Congratulations to everyone who took part - you all did a great job!

Our 'Friendship' poem

Here are our thoughts about friendship....

Friendship

Friends are nice to us.
Friends look after people when they are upset.
Friends play with us.
Friends share their toys.
Friends are kind to us when we fall over.
Friends help everybody.
Friends play nicely.
Friends cheer us up.
Friends give us hugs.
Friends make us laugh.
Friends give us big smiles.

This week in Falcon Class...

In Literacy this week we have been thinking about the different values of the Olympics, particularly friendship. We have talked about what friendship means to us, and what a good friend should be like. We thought of lots of ideas and then each wrote a sentence to describe friendship. We then put the sentences together to make a class poem!
In Numeracy this week we have been busy measuring the length and height of different objects in the classroom and outdoors. We have used the terms ‘longer’, ‘shorter’, ‘taller’ to describe the size of different objects, and have been finding out how long objects are using cubes.
In our Topic work this week we have been busy practising for Sports Day which is just around the corner. We have also been making some ‘Olympic artwork’ for our class display, including flags, medals and the Olympic rings.

Fathers week

Last week Falcon Class welcomed Mr Richardson, Mr Cozens, Mr van der Heijden and Mr Stevens as part of 'Fathers week'. We had lots of fun taking part in the different activities. Here are some of the things we did.

A fantastic Falcon assembly

On Friday, Falcon Class performed our second class assembly, all about this term's topic of minibeasts! Everyone was absolutely fantastic and a big thank you to all of the parents who came to watch - the children loved seeing you there!
