This week in Falcon Class...

·        In Literacy this week we have been reading the story ‘Norman – the slug with a silly shell.’ We designed our very own ‘silly’ minibeast, and wrote some labels and captions to describe our creature.  We then used our designs to paint a picture of our brand new insects.
·        In Maths this week we have been focusing on measuring. We began by comparing the weight of different classroom objects, and then measured their weight using cubes. We also looked at measuring capacity, working out which containers could hold more water and sand.
·        In our Topic work this week we have begun our new science experiment. We watered some cress seeds using water, apple juice, milk and blackcurrant in order to find out which helped seeds grow the quickest. We also released some butterflies into the world, and had a go at sequencing the life cycle of a butterfly. We also talked about our world, and made posters to show how we could look after the environment.

Butterflies at last!

Over the weekend our caterpillars hatched from their cocoons and turned into butterflies! We spent Monday looking after them, watching what they got up to, and feeding them some fruit in case they were hungry. We then took them outside and released them into the big wide world! One of them, however, didn't want to leave, and let some of us take turns holding it before it flew away. Have a look at some of our photos!

This week in Falcon Class....

·        In Literacy this week we have been choosing from lots of different Literacy-based activities, such as role play, phonics games, word puzzles etc. We have also had a go at a piece of independent writing, a letter to ‘Jack’ in ‘Jack and the Beanstalk.’
·        In Maths this week we have been taking part in lots of maths activities, such as dominoes, snakes and ladders, number stamps etc. We have also tried to order numbers 0-20 independently.
·        In our Topic work this week we have talked about the different parts of the plants, and what they do. We have also been busy making collages of different minibeasts to go on our corridor display. We have also planned a new science investigation, to try to find out which liquid will help a plant grow the quickest.

Our fantastic artwork!

This week we have created our own minibeasts for our class display. Have a look at our brilliant insects!
