African workshop
Today we took part in an African workshop. We learned some African dances and listened to an African story. We really enjoyed it! Take a look at some of our moves.

In
Literacy this week we have been learning about diaries. We talked about why
people might keep a diary and the kind of things we might write in them. We
then had a go at writing a diary entry for this week, describing what we got up
to in school.
·
In
Maths this week we have been working on our addition skills, and focusing
particularly on writing an addition sentence e.g. 2+2=4. We also spent some
time learning how to double different amounts of objects.
·
In
our Topic work this week we have been sorting minibeasts in lots of different
ways e.g. type, number of legs, whether they have wings etc. We also spent some
time practising our sewing skills, as we are going to be making our own puppets
in the next few weeks. We also talked about the world around us, and painted
some pictures of what we liked most about the world.
Look how they've grown!
We have also been very lucky this week and have been given some frogspawn to look after in the classroom. We are looking forward to watching them grow and eventually returning them to their natural habitat!

Our caterpillars!
This week our caterpillars arrived! We are very excited to be taking care of them until they have hatched into butterflies. We picked five children at random and those children chose the following names for the caterpillars: Belle, Daisy, Dixie, Dexter and Dolphin. We will be keeping you informed of their progress!

In
Literacy this week we have been reading the story ‘The very hungry
caterpillar’. We painted different parts of the story, before sequencing the
story using pictures. We then had a go at writing a menu for the caterpillar as
he seemed to enjoy eating lots of food!
·
In
Maths this week we have been working on recognising, ordering and writing
numbers 1-20. We went on a number hunt outside, before making our own number
lines.
·
In
our Topic work this week we have begun to think about our new topic of ‘our
world’. We talked about the different types of minibeasts you might find
outside, and went on a minibeast hunt around the field. We then made some flowers
for our new role play area, and were introduced to our new caterpillars which
we are going to look after for the next few weeks until they hatch into
butterflies. We have also enjoyed experimenting with magnets, and playing in our new role play area.
