This week in Falcon class….

·       In Literacy this week we have been reading the traditional tale ‘Goldilocks’. We have had a go at acting out the story using role play masks, and we talked about the different characters in the story. We drew a picture of one of the characters, and had a go at writing some words to describe them.
·     In Numeracy this week we have been continuing our work on measure. We have been learning about weight, comparing the weight of different objects using balance scales. We have also been thinking about capacity, filling different sized containers with sand or water, and using the terms ‘full’ and ‘empty’ to describe them.
·     In our Topic work this week we have been painting pictures of the different characters from Goldilocks. We also performed an experiment, trying to find out how to make the perfect porridge for Goldilocks; one bowl was too thick, one bowl was too runny, and one bowl was just right! We have also been learning about the seasons of the year, and how they are different from each other. On Thursday we had a whole-school ICT Day, where we learned all about how to be safe when using ICT. We also had lots of fun using Bee-bots, cameras, listening equipment and different recording devices. We also played some phonics games in the ICT suite.

This week in Falcon Class...

·        In Literacy this week we watched a clip of the film ‘Happy Feet’, and talked about how the different characters felt in the story. We acted out some of the scenes in the film, and then wrote a letter as one of the characters.
·        In Numeracy this week we have been learning how to measure. We have thought about the terms height and length, and how they are different from each other. We have been very practical this week and built lots of different sized objects in order to compare size.
·        In our Topic work this week we have been having lots of fun with ICT. We played with the Bee-bots for the first time, and had fun programming different routes and watching them travel around the room. We also went to the ICT suite and experimented with Grenada Colours, drawing pictures and trying out the different tools. In art, we had a go at making a collage picture of a penguin, and used lots of different materials such as felt, tissue paper, fur etc.

Children in Need

On Friday we wore our pyjamas to raise money for ‘Children in Need.’ In the afternoon we took part in different activities to help us empathise with children who are less fortunate than us. Some of us had a go at painting using only our feet - have a look!

This week in Falcon Class...

·     In Literacy this week we have been talking about out school trip to the farm. We thought about what we had seen, and had a go at writing a short recount of the trip.
·      In Numeracy this week we have been learning how to add and subtract. We have been combining and taking away groups of objects using play dough, cubes and construction materials. We have also been beginning to think about how to write simple number sentences e.g. 2+1=3.
·      In our Topic work this week we have been thinking about our homes. We talked about where we live, who lives with us and what our houses look like, and drew a plan of our house and labelled the different rooms. We also built a model of our house using junk materials, and then painted them the correct colours.

Take a look at our model-making in action!

This week in Falcon Class...

In Literacy this week we read the story ‘We’re going on a bear hunt’. We talked about the different settings in the story, and thought of lots of words we could use to describe them.

In Numeracy this week we have been thinking about 2D shape. We worked on recognising squares, rectangles, circles and triangles, and talked about their different properties, such as the number of sides and corners.

In our Topic work this week we celebrated Bonfire Night by making chocolate sparkers. We melted some chocolate fingers and tested whether they would cool quicker in the fridge or in the classroom. We also thought about Remembrance Day, and made some poppies using card and tissue paper, as well as having a go at painting a poppy field. On Friday, we went on a school trip to Baines Farm and had a fantastic time looking at, and learning about the different animals.
We have also been exploring our new role play area, which has transformed into a hospital!

Our first school trip!

On Friday we went on a visit to Baines Farm. We saw some horses and some sheep, and learned about how to take care of them. We also had a go at sitting in the tractor! We had a fantastic time and would like to thank Mel for showing us around. :)
