Our final guest

On Monday morning, Falcon welcomed our final visitor of the term, Mr Norton, who talked to us about his job as a pilot. We saw some fantastic photographs of different types of aeroplanes, and learned that pilots have lots of different jobs, such as refuelling smaller planes, rescuing people if they're in trouble and taking supplies to people in an emergency, e.g. an earthquake. We were also very lucky because we were given lots of super gifts, including a sticker, pen and aeroplane badge! Thank you Mr Norton!

A very energetic Friday

On Friday, Caythorpe Primary School was very busy celebrating Sport Relief. In the morning we took part in six different sporting activities - brilliantly organised by Miss Adey - including throwing, ladders, bounce, cricket, boccia and the parachute. We were divided into six groups named after famous British athletes, and we really enjoyed spending time with the older children in the school.  In the afternoon we travelled to the park to walk the Sport Relief mile, which the children completed brilliantly! (I think the adults may have been more tired than the children by the end of the day!) When we got back to school we took part in a 'bounce off' where the best 'bouncers' from each year competed against each other. Well done to Chloe P and Alex for getting to the final!

Even more visitors!

Last week, Falcon Class were lucky enough to welcome two more visitors to school. On Tuesday, PC Barr visited us to talk about his job as a policeman. We asked him lots of questions, tried on his police hat and even got to have a go sitting in his police car. The siren was very loud! On Wednesday, we were visited by Mrs Woodward, who told us all about her job working with poorly animals, making them feel better using hydrotherapy. Lots of us then decided we wanted to work with animals!

A very busy Friday!

Friday was a very busy day for the children in Falcon Class. To begin with we invited all of the Mums in our class into school for a mini-Mother's Day Celebration. We ate some super cakes that we had made and had great fun playing outside with all of the children from pre-school. In the afternoon we then went to Church and sang a lovely song to our Mums, thanking them for all of the hard work that they do everyday.
We hope all of the Mums at Caythorpe had a fantastic Mother's Day!

What do doctors and nurses do.....?

This week we have been thinking about doctors and nurses, and the different ways in which they help us. On Monday we were visited by Mrs Stevens who told us all about her responsibilites as a nurse, and the different ways she looked after people. We were given lots of exciting equipment to try out, including bandages, stethoscopes, syringes etc. We also walked to the local medical surgery on Monday afternoon, and spoke to the doctor and nurses about what their jobs were like.

Listening to poetry

On Wednesday, Caythorpe welcomed poet David Mason, who entertained us with fantastic readings of his poems. We were very excited when we acted like dinosaurs whilst singing one of his hilarious songs!
We also took the children for a trip to the local church as part of their RE lesson, where they tried to spot lots of religious objects, such as stained glass windows, the lectern etc.

Next week we are looking forward to visits from other members of the local community.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012

On Monday,  Falcon Class was visited by a fire officer as part of our topic 'People Who Help Us.' We watched a DVD about fire safety and prevention, and what to do in case of emergency. Some of us even had a go at wearing a fire officer's uniform! In the coming weeks we will also be visiting the local doctor's surgery and meeting a local police officer.
